Anniversaries & Projects

The Charity Symphony Orchestra have several ideas for projects over the next few years to raise money for charities. If you are a charity that would like money raised for your needs through classical music or if you are interested in helping make any of the below projects work, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us. Likewise, if you have a suggestion of a fundraising concert theme, please get in touch and we will try and help.

Over the coming seasons, the Charity Symphony Orchestra will be exploring the music of two great composers Robert Schumann and Gustav Mahler. 2010 marks the birth dates of both composers, Schumann in 1810 (200 years) and Mahler in 1860 (150).

Keep a look out on the concert pages for details of Schumann and Mahler performances.

Schumann 2010

In celebration of the bicentenary of Schumann's birth the Charity Symphony Orchestra will set out to produce studio recordings of Schumann's four symphonies.

Beginning this year, the recording process is likely to last over a year. During the next two seasons the orchestra will look to complete live performances of the symphonies, having already performed No.1 & 3.

Many composers and musicians suffer from mental illness which profoundly affects their compositions and careers on and off the concert platform. We thought it would be a worthy cause to donate money raised by the production of our Schumann CD to the mental illness charity Solent MIND.

To find out more about MIND and the work they undertake, please visit their website at www.solentmind.org.uk
