Charities we've helped

We have been raising money for different charities over the last 5 years. Each charity we help raise money for has a special connection with someone in the orchestra which makes each concert that extra bit special and meaningful. If you would like the Charity Symphony Orchestra to raise money for a personal cause, please get in contact and we will see if we can help.

Naomi House (November 2011) amount raised: £280.41

Picture
Naomi House provides care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families living in Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire & the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, and parts of West Sussex and Surrey.  Naomi House has been providing one-to-one care and support since 1997 and has supported over 560 life-limited children and their families with respite and emergency care, bereavement care, sibling support and play therapy.

It currently costs approximately £5m each year to provide the intensive one-to-one support, 24hours a day, care to life-limited children and their families in Naomi House and Jacksplace, our brand new hospice for teenagers. With less than 15% of the funding coming from Government, incredibly, the rest is generously given by individuals, groups and organisations such as yourselves, which enables us to continue providing care and support when children and families need it most.

St. Paul's Church, Winchester (July + September 2011) amount raised: £341.27

Here at St Paul’s and St Matthew’s a distinctive theology is emerging. We are a parish rooted in the community, offering a variety of worship to all ages, with many signs of growth.  For example, many people are on a journey of discovery individually and together. A deepening of inner life is energising a greater commitment, particularly to those in need, locally and in our world more widely. This is sharply focused in our repeated theme: Beyond Ourselves. If we live for ourselves alone, we will die to all that is most important and enduring.
Hospitality, in every sense, generous and freely given, is key to how we envisage our future. We want to be radical in demonstrating that the root of all we seek to be, and do, is found in the love of God. The God whom we worship is alive and well in every human person. God knows no boundaries; He is present everywhere and is made known in the gift of loving wherever love is seen.

Our parish churches are known for having soft edges. At both churches, we welcome everyone and seek to make them feel at home. Asking in response open minds and hearts. People find they can come and go freely, without any judgement being made. We reject exclusivity and making distinctions between who belongs and who does not.

Solent Mind (May 2011) amount raised: £305

Picture
Solent Mind run a range of community mental health and wellbeing services for local people, supporting people in their homes, the community and at work. We believe that people with mental health problems are too often denied the right to participate in society and lead valued lives and so promote choice, independence and wellbeing in everything we do. 1 in 4 people  will experience mental health problems at some stage in their lives and we want to be able to support them at each stage of their recovery journey. Thank you for supporting us.

Southampton Street Pastors (May 2009) amount raised: £500

Picture
Street Pastors have been operating in Southampton City Centre on Friday and Saturday nights since May 2009, going on duty to listen, care and help from 10pm to 4am. Our 63 trained volunteers are formed into 12 teams, each going on duty once per month. They are all members of local churches (so far 35 churches are involved).
When on patrol they make the streets safer by removing bottles and broken glass and being available to anyone who needs help. This includes giving directions, administering basic first aid, being a listening ear when someone is upset and helping drunk people find a way to get home safely.
