We have been raising money for different charities over the years. Each charity we help raise money for has a special connection with someone in the orchestra which makes each concert that extra bit special and meaningful. If you would like the Charity Symphony Orchestra to raise money for a personal cause, please get in contact and we will see if we can help.

We are constantly seeking ways to engage with and support those at risk of ending their lives or those affected by it.  One of the ways that we do this is through the Outreach Team.   As we have only a finite number of volunteers, we try to focus on working closer with specific higher risk groups, for example, men in mid-life, from disadvantaged backgrounds.  The aim being to try and make them aware of the Samaritans service and how to access the emotional support we offer in the hope that it might make a difference if they are unfortunate enough to need it one day.

This year the Outreach team have worked with British Rail on an awareness programme for staff and the public.  Locally at Winchester Railway Station we have put up posters, directions to the branch and on occasions had a physical presence.

Living Water Africa (November 2013) £234.65

Living Water Africa was launched on the 23rd January 2010 in Salisbury Cathedral, at the memorial service for Samantha Verschueren. After witnessing water poverty first hand during a trip to Mombasa, Kenya in 2008, Samantha shared with her family a deep concern for this appalling problem. Living Water Africa was then set up in her loving memory, following her passing on 22nd August 2009. We believe in Straight Through Giving. This means that 100% of the money we receive for the charity goes straight through to projects – none of it goes to meeting administration costs or overheads. These other costs are met by special friends of the charity who specifically want to help us in that area. We know we cannot solve the global problem of Water Poverty – it is too big. However we can and will solve the problem for each community we work with. And we know that will make a huge difference to those communities.
We believe in the crucial need for collaboration, sharing of knowledge and experience, and pooling of resources in order to tackle the global problem of Water Poverty.

St. Paul's Church, Winchester (July + Sept 2011) £341.27

Here at St Paul’s and St Matthew’s a distinctive theology is emerging. We are a parish rooted in the community, offering a variety of worship to all ages, with many signs of growth.  For example, many people are on a journey of discovery individually and together. A deepening of inner life is energising a greater commitment, particularly to those in need, locally and in our world more widely. This is sharply focused in our repeated theme: Beyond Ourselves. If we live for ourselves alone, we will die to all that is most important and enduring. Hospitality, in every sense, generous and freely given, is key to how we envisage our future. We want to be radical in demonstrating that the root of all we seek to be, and do, is found in the love of God. The God whom we worship is alive and well in every human person. God knows no boundaries; He is present everywhere and is made known in the gift of loving wherever love is seen.
